On Monday we drove about an hour outside of Las Vegas to explore
Valley of fire State Park.
The first hike we did was the Mouse's tank hike.
It was named for an outlaw who used the area as a hideout in the 1890's.
Mouse tank is a natural basin in the rock where water collects after rainfalls and sometimes remains for months.
Aidan and Liam called this rock formation
Pride Rock.
Petroglyphs all over this rock and many others places along this hike.
The mouse tanks.
Next we headed to the White Domes hike.
This hike had lots of sandstone formations with all kinds of different colors.
This area was used a lot in the shooting of movies.
Here are the remains of a movie set from the movie
"The Professionals"
Hiking through a small slot canyon.
Purple sand and Purple veins in the rock.
This rock formation reminded me of something out of Star Wars.
Like Darth Vader's melted mask!
Keira, Aidan and Liam
This area was called the
Beehives
It has unusual sandstone formations eroded by wind and water.
