Skagway, Alaska. Day 4. White Pass Scenic Railway

Our excursion in Skagway was the White Pass Scenic Railway.

We got lucky because the car we were in was the one the guide sat in and talked about the history of the railway and the gold rush.

When she wasn't on the speaker she just talked to us in the car. So we got a lot of insights just from her. It was great.

The next two pictures are of the approximate place of the trail that the gold stampeders used to travel to the Klondike and gold.

Into Canada and back.

Back on the cruise ship that evening they 

brought puppies for us to see and pet if we wanted.

They are future sled dogs.

 

Skagway, Alaska Day 4

The port area in Skagway was affected by nearby rockslides in 2022. We were not permitted to walk in the area where construction on mitigation measures is underway.

The cruise used water shuttles (tenders) to run us to and from the ship.

Sorry kids when I sent you this picture of dad on what I called a lifeboat. 

We got a pretty good laugh at some of the responses. 

I really didn't mean to scare you.

Built in 1898 as a saloon, dance hall and bordello.

When we went in here to order a scone ,

the cashier said you must be from Utah.

Only in Utah do they call fry bread scones. Hahaha!!
