We ended our day at the park by walking around two gardens.
The Desert Garden and the Old Cactus garden.

San Diego Getaway May 3, 2016 Day 2 part 1

We were looking forward to this day by going to the USS Midway. But after we came down from our motel room we discovered that my bike had been stolen off the back of our car. It happened just a few minutes before we came down from our room. The motel has security cameras in the parking lot and they were able to find when it happened and showed us the tape. The perp walked off the sidewalk to the car cut the cable and rode off. This happened at 8:06am and we were in the lobby at about 8: 15. Not the best way to start our day. I called the police to file a report and dispatch took my name and said they would send the policeman. This call was a low priority so 3 hours later I called dispatch again wondering how much longer it would be and she move us up on the priority list. A policeman showed up about 30 minutes later and took our report and a copy of the security surveillance. I told him I would send him a picture of the bike, the model number and serial number which I did after we got home.
So we didn't get our day started until after lunch. Since we wanted the whole day on the USS Midway we changed plans and headed over to Balboa Park.

There are a lot of things to do in Balboa Park so we bought a multi-day explorer pass. Since we didn't get breakfast the first thing we did was find a place for lunch. Then we headed over to the San Diego Air & Space Museum. We paid $5 more to be able to see the Da Vinci display which was very interesting.

Wish I had remembered to take off my camera bag.

After we were done we walked right next door to the San Diego Automotive Museum.

Allan told me this is his dream Motorcycle!

San Diego Getaway May 2 - 6, 2016, Day 1

Allan and I decided to getaway for a few days to celebrate our 38th anniversary. It has been quite a few years since we have taken a vacation with just the two of us. We are usually visiting family and doing things with the grandkids. We really had a great time going off by ourselves and enjoying our time alone together.
We left Monday morning and first dropped off Frodo at Terri and Dave's and then headed down to San Diego. Our first stop was to the Mormon Battalion Historic Site in San Diego. We enjoyed the tour with the Sister Missionaries and learned a lot about the battalion. Here are a few pictures from our tour.

Allan knew he had a relative but couldn't remember his name so he called his mom and we were able to find him on the list that they have on a computer screen. Henry Weeks Sanderson was a member of the Mormon Battalion. It was fun to find him in the list and read a bit about him.
Outside in a little patio area you could pan for "fool's" Gold!

A view from top of the building.

After we were done we walked across the street to Old Town San Diego and walked through a couple of museums. Then did a little shopping in the open market where they had a lot of things from Mexico. I found a nativity set and a gourd painted with a nativity scene.

These pictures are some of the interesting things we saw at the museum.

We then headed over to our motel and got checked in. I wanted to find a restaurant that was featured on the show Diners, Drive ins and Dives and have dinner. We found one called Hob Nob Hill and it was only a 12 minute walk from the motel. We walked to the restaurant and enjoyed dinner. We also ate breakfast there twice. We agreed that breakfast was much better then dinner. It was fun to eat at a place that was featured on the show.
